Detail from an earlier Judge Dredd study |
I’m proud to share some Judge Dredd comic art, Dredd of course featuring in Britain’s 2000AD. I worked for them previously and drew a Terrortale written by Steve Moore before I dived into storyboarding full time. Dredd remains one of my favourite characters (along with Jaime Hernandez’ Maggie and X-Men’s Cyclops) and I’ve been drawing him since I was a boy.
This script is called Cycle of Violence and the writer is uncredited. It’s downloadable from the 2000AD website for anyone to have a crack at. It was illuminating to go online and see how other artists interpreted it, and I hope mine stands out. The lettering is my own. While working on it I realised why it’s chosen as a test for potential artists – it demands the artist draw many different characters, one in particular ageing over time and resembling his father. Let me know if I achieved this!
