Princess Chelsea 'doll' t-shirt

When kiwi musician Princess Chelsea approached me to design a t-shirt for her forthcoming tour of North America, I thought it was an unmissable opportunity to have a little fun. When I suggested ‘Chelsea as doll’, with accessories, Chelsea loved it and off I went, somewhat inspired by the Barbie movie.

Extensive research had me looking at many types of doll, before I produced three sketches for selection. We went with this one (another featured the doll still in its box) and I enjoyed adding elements like a fishing rod and a xylophone (Chelsea partial to both). Sharp-eyed fans of her work will recognise the stuffed toy gorilla from her videos. I recommend her song Monkey Eats Bananas, if you’re unaware of her work.

The cheeky nod to musician Jonathan Bree, Chelsea’s partner and L’il Chief Records label-mate, is a touch I’m very happy with. Go here to see another design for Chelsea, on the back of her award winning album Everything Is Going To Be Alright: https://lnkd.in/gE7rnpmG
